Songfacts®: – Artist: The lead singer of Jellyfish, Andy Sturmer, is responsible for the song’s lyrics, and the song “That Is Why” is about a man who is ready to end a poisonous relationship. Because he has gotten reliant on her, it has been allowed to continue for such a long time; nonetheless, the moment has come to put an end to it.
Sturmer is an Elvis Costello admirer, and the musician’s imprint can be heard throughout the song, particularly in lyrics like “It’s partially overcast with trouser stains.” Roger Manning, who plays the keyboards for Jellyfish, is the composer of the music. In an interview with Songfacts, he described how it was put together as follows: “Andy was the one who came up with the chorus, but he wasn’t sure how to go with it.
On the other hand, he believed in it, and when he played it for me, I believed in it as well. We finished the song structure itself in a thirty-minute writing session because we were both so enthused about the heart of the idea. And I was inspired to help build that verse and the bridge.

- After that, demoing it and organizing it were two whole other cans of worms that needed to be opened.” After the release of “The King Is Half-Undressed,” this was Jellyfish’s second single to be released.
- It garnered modest playing on Modern Rock radio and won some spins on MTV with the Rocky Schenck-directed video, but Jellyfish was pushing against the waves of grunge with their multi-layered pop sound, and they never struck a huge success.
The video was directed by Rocky Schenck. Before disbanding in 1994, the band only managed to record two studio albums.
